SONGWRITING & CREDITS

Write down who contributed to melody, lyrics and composition while everyone still remembers the session. Credits become much harder to reconstruct later.

COLLABORATIONS & SPLITS

A collaboration should have a clear split conversation before release. Agree who owns what and record the percentages in writing.

MASTER OWNERSHIP

The master is the recording itself. Be clear who financed, produced and owns it, and what rights the producer or featured artists receive.

PRODUCER AGREEMENTS

A producer can be paid through a fee, royalty, ownership share, publishing share or a combination. Do not assume the deal—state it.

SAMPLES & PERMISSIONS

Samples, interpolations and third-party recordings can require permission before commercial release. “It is only a few seconds” is not a clearance strategy.

Unclear ownership can stop distribution, delay royalties, create takedowns or turn a successful record into a dispute.
