WHERE IT STARTED — MAY 5, 2021

From a live looping jam to a 2026 release

It actually started on May 5, 2021, during the pandemic. In a live Instagram looping jam, Wolffman built Leave The Door Open layer by layer — starting with the drums, then adding piano, melodies and more musical parts. The jam eventually came together with vocals taken from an online cover by Mr Minelli. The session drew a strong wave of views and reactions, and planted the idea that Wolffman should one day make his own full version. At the time, he just did not yet know what that version should be. Five years later, he found the angle.

THE 2026 STORY

The story behind Wolffman’s Leave The Door Open

The idea starts with the romantic invitation at the heart of Silk Sonic’s Leave The Door Open, then asks one simple question: what happens if someone actually accepts that invitation and the night does not go to plan? In Wolffman’s version, the hopeful visitor arrives in his Sunday shoes with wine, flowers and the expectation of candlelight and slow jams. Instead, he is left outside wondering what changed.

A different perspective, not a mockery

This is an affectionate fan tribute rather than a mockery. Wolffman changes the perspective, rewrites the story and moves the idea into his own dance production. No endorsement or involvement by Silk Sonic, Bruno Mars or Anderson .Paak is implied.

Heart in my hands while the wind blew through

The rewritten lyrics continue from that perspective: waiting outside, watching headlights pass, wondering what changed, and eventually driving away with the flowers still beside him.
